Chitra Bichitra recently had a brief conversation with her. Let’s delve deeper into the artist's perspective on her journey, art, and how she stays creative and strong despite challenges.

Please tell us a bit about yourself and your background as an artist.

Growing up in a village filled with traditional painting, I developed a strong artistic background early on. Despite this, I took a different path and became involved in theater, eventually working as a teacher. However, I faced challenges and felt overwhelmed, leading to a period of depression. It wasn't until I turned 25 that I rediscovered my love for painting, drawing inspiration from the traditional style of my hometown. Four years later, I took a leap of faith and started my own art company. Through it all, painting has been my constant companion, offering comfort during tough times and as a powerful form of self-expression.

What inspired you to travel the world creating these traditional Swedish Art?

I am simply a nomadic soul, always drawn to new adventures. Eventually, it was my destiny to wander again. By pure serendipity, I found myself in Nepal, a place that unexpectedly captured my heart.

Which countries or regions have you visited in your pursuit of kurbits art?

In Finland, I sold my intricate kurbits art amidst the vast forests. Norway offered a contrasting experience; I roamed through wooded landscapes, joining a rainbow gathering where I painted a house, soaking up the lively atmosphere. In Italy, I volunteered, caring for horses and aiding in the kitchen. Here, I also found delight in painting on piastrelle, enhancing everyday spaces with creativity. Nepal warmly embraced me, as I frequented hostels, cafes, and a yoga studio, each offering a distinctive setting for my artistic endeavors.

What were some of the most memorable experiences you had while traveling and drawing in Nepal?

One standout memory from my time drawing in Nepal was when I was creating a sign at the Pokhara Hemp Gallery. The sun was shining down as I worked on the small painting, but the unique atmosphere of the place made it a time-consuming task. Despite the challenges, the experience was incredibly fulfilling and remains etched in my memory as a significant moment of my travels.

How did your time in Nepal influence your approach to kurbits art?

I have had much more presence in my painting and yes, patience. That’s the important part.

Can you share a particularly memorable experience or interaction you had with locals while painting in Nepal?

It was quite an interesting experience painting at the village chairperson's house, although I didn't realize their role at first. I found myself in need of a restroom, and it turned out that the village chairperson's place was nearby, in Ramaroshan. They graciously invited me in, providing me with food and shelter in exchange for painting a piece at their house. Surprisingly, they didn't mention their position until after the painting was completed.

Did the landscapes and culture of Nepal influence any particular themes or motifs in your Kurbits artwork, drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of traditional Swedish art?

Yes! It has inspired me to a good extent, and I keep looking forward to it.

Can you share any advice or insights for aspiring artists who wish to embark on similar creative journeys abroad?
